Balanced Organic Rejuvenation™ focuses on analyzing the three component changes that occur with aging, and then customizing a rejuvenation plan using a specific technique deemed “organic” for that component change. The three components involved in aging are loss of skin elasticity and support, resulting gravitational descent of underlying structures; such as muscles, fat, and soft tissue contours, and loss of facial volumes. Gravitational descent has been traditionally addressed in face lifting surgery to re-suspend dependent and slack structures. However, the skin stretching component of facial surgery has often led to an unnatural appearance. This is where Balanced Organic Rejuvenation™ departs from traditional surgical techniques. In Balanced Organic Rejuvenation™, minimally invasive surgical techniques can be used to lift sagging soft tissue. However, the loss of skin elasticity and support is “organically” corrected using laser energy.
By stimulating the replacement of lost collagen and elastic structures, we can perfectly restore the supportive tone, texture, and appearance of youthful skin. In effect, the skin is not stretched, but actually restored to its original dimensions. Finally, some degree of volume replacement is necessary to achieve the full youthful contours lost to aging.
Dr. Wells often draws an analogy between skin and fabric and makes the point that a great surgical result is predicated on the quality of the fabric, not just the tailoring. According to Dr. Wells, “Children don’t have tight faces; they have Lycra-like faces. As we age, our skin goes from Lycra to linen. There is a big difference between stimulating versus simulating youth. By rebuilding the actual elasticity of the skin, shrinking the envelope of the face and using some minimal lift techniques, I am able to actually restore youth, helping turn back the hands of time to recreate a most natural and youthful appearance.”
