The aging process results in loosening and banding of the neck skin, appearance of jowls, and redundancy in the folds at the nasolabial line. Facelift surgery by Dr. Scott Wells is tailored for each individual patient to restore the face to the way it was in youth. This is accomplished by tightening the facial muscles and the overlying skin. Above all, particular attention is taken by Dr. Wells to achieve a very natural look.
The choice of incisions is made by Dr. Wells on an individualized basis. Incision sites can be made “in front of the ear” or “behind the ear.” In either case, the lines are well hidden in your natural folds and shadows. Our optimal goal is to achieve a natural rejuvenated look.
Most patients have minimal swelling and bruising during the first week. Most go out freely with friends within a week and return to work in two weeks. You should be picture ready in four to six weeks.
In a facelift, the muscles are supported and the skin lifted. The results are generally permanent. That is, the “clock” is moved back, but unfortunately, we cannot stop it from ticking. The usual patient may want another lift 12-15 years later. This is sometimes requested because 12 to 15 more years of aging may bring back some of the problems that were corrected by the original surgery.
A facelift alone may not eliminate all of your wrinkles. Considering this, many patients from laser resurfacing performed by Dr. Scott Wells around the eyes or of the upper lip area where wrinkle lines are prominent and will not be eliminated by a facelift.
Fat grafting can also be performed by Dr. Wells to fill the folds at the corner of the mouth or below (known as nasolabial folds or marionette lines) is also a common ancillary procedure. In addition, he often uses Botox to soften the crow’s feet, forehead lines, or lines between the eyebrows.
